49.2% of Albertans bought a lottery ticket in the past 12 months, about 2.02 million people, and convenience stores sell 75% of all lottery products in Ontario. 12 Lottery is the most normalized gambling behaviour in the country, yet iGaming acquisition plans rarely buy the physical moment where it happens. The bridge from an $8.22 a month lottery habit to a regulated iGaming account is shorter than the category assumes.
Lottery is the largest gambling audience in the market
To reach lottery players is to reach the widest gambling base there is. In Alberta, 2.02 million people bought lottery in the past year, against 1.09 million casino visitors, 822,000 online slots players and 443,000 online sports bettors. 1 The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation calls lottery the number 1 selling front of store product, and the Ontario Convenience Stores Association calls it the channel’s single largest traffic generator. 32
The counter is a purchase moment, not an impression
A lottery buyer at the counter has gambling on their mind, their wallet open and their age already verified by the transaction itself. The migration to digital is already underway. 14.8% of Albertans, about 609,000 people, purchase lottery online, and heavy convenience shoppers index 153 on buying lottery online. 1 A screen beside the terminal reaches this audience mid decision, timing no search ad can match.
From ticket buyer to account holder
Converting an existing gambling habit costs less than creating a new one. The 30+ regulated operators now live in Alberta are competing for wallets the lottery counter already holds weekly. Screens at Circle K locations and independent convenience stores put a regulated offer in that exact moment. Adapt Media pairs national DOOH coverage with neighbourhood-level targeting, so lottery heavy trade areas can be weighted screen by screen. All messaging runs 18 plus under provincial advertising standards.
Buying the bridge while it is cheap
The window between launch and the fall season openers is when the bridge costs least. Weight the counter environments through the summer, hold frequency as operators fight for first deposits, and retarget exposed devices with the signup offer. The habit is already formed. The plan just has to stand next to it.
